Command summary

This part of the guide summarizes commands for doing common tasks in the enCore. It focuses exclusively upon using commands to function in enCore, not point-and-click.

Commands for looking at objects and people

Command/Action What it does
look (can be abbreviated to l) Displays a description of the room you are in in the talk area and viewing area.
look person Displays a description of the person you have specified in the talk area and viewing area.
look me Displays your description in the viewing area and a list of what you are carrying in the talk area.
look object Displays a description of the object you have specified in the viewing area.
@examine object (@examine can be abbreviated to @exam) Displays a description of the specified object in the viewing area. Displays the object number, aliases, owner, contents of the object, and a list of the likely commands that you can use on an object in the talk area.
@examine here Displays a description of the room you are in, in the viewing area. Displays the room's object number, aliases, owner, objects and persons in the room, and a list of the likely commands that you can use in the room in the talk area.
@examine me Displays your description in the viewing area. Displays your object number, your aliases, what you are carrying, and a list of the likely commands that you can use in the talk area.
@examine person Displays the player's description in the viewing area. Displays the player's object number, aliases, what he or she is carrying, and a list of likely commands you can use in relation to the player in the talk area.
@audit person Displays a list of the objects the player owns, the size of those objects, their object numbers, and where they are located.
@who Tells you who is currently logged in to enCore. Or you can click on the Who button in the button bar.
@login Toggles on and off a "Login Watcher" that tells you when someone else logs in to the MOO.
@d object Displays in the talk window a quick summary of information about the object including the object number, its aliases, its location, its owner and its size (for programmers and wizards only).
@d here Displays in the talk window a quick summary of information about the room you are in including the object number, its aliases, its location, its owner and its size (programmers and wizards only).
@d person Displays in the talk window a quick summary of information about the person, including its object number, its aliases, and its location (programmers and wizards only).

Talking to other people

Command What it does
" text or
say text

Displays what you have typed with You say, "text" in the talk area.
to person text Displays what you have typed with Yourname [to person]: text in the talk area. (Note: the person must be in the same room as you.)
: action or emote action Displays what you have typed with Yourname action in the talk area. (Note: you should describe actions in the third person since they will be displayed in the third person. For example, emote waves will be displayed as Erin waves.)
whisper text to person (whisper may be abbreviated as wh) Sends a private message to the player you have named. Note: the player has to be in the same room as you.
page person text Sends a private message to the player you have named. (Note: the player doesn't have to be in the same room as you, but they do have to be connected to enCore.)
think text Displays what you have typed with Yourname . o O (text) in the talk area. (This is meant to suggest the thought balloons one finds in comic strips.)
[how]: text Displays your message with a "stage direction." Example: [humming]: tiddly pom will be displayed as Yourname [humming]: tiddly pom
@paste, @paste to Commands that allow you to post material (which you may copy and paste in verbatim from another source) to the talk area, either to everyone in the room or to a specific individual. The message will be set off by header and footer lines indicating who the message is from. For further help on this somewhat advanced feature, type help #92 in the Command Window.
]action Displays what you have typed with [Yourname action] in the talk area. Example: ]hides behind the reactor will be displayed as [Yourname hides behind the reactor]. Remember to use third person verbs here, as with the emote command.
action Another way to indicate something about yourself. Example: feeling tired will be displayed as Yourname - feeling tired.
social verbs enCore has a large repertoire of "social verb" commands that allow you to indicate some kind of action or response or state. For a list, type feelings in the Command Window. Then try some of them out -- they are a lot of fun!

Navigating in enCore

Command/Action What it does
exitname By typing in the exit name as listed in the description, enCore will take you to that room.
@ways Displays in the talk area a list of all exits/links from the room. You can then type the name of the way you want to follow. Also shows 'invisible' exits.
@exits Displays in the talk area a list of all exits/links from a room you own.
@join person Takes you to the room where the person you specified is located. It is considered polite in enCore to give the @knock person command first to find out if the person would like you to join him or her. (The normal replies are @invite person and @busy person to tell the person who knocked on your virtual 'door' whether you are available or busy.)
@go room Transports you to the room you have named. Also called teleporting, it is the quickest way to get around. You could also type in @go room#, if you know the number of the room. For example, @go #62 will take you to the Starting Point of the enCore environment.

Working with objects

Command What it does
look object Displays the object's description in the talk area and the viewing area.
@examine object Displays a description of the object in the talk area and the viewing area. Displays the object number, the aliases, and a list of the commands that you can use on an object in the talk area.
@contents object Displays a list of the contents of an object (such as a recorder) in the talk area and the viewing area.
@d object Displays in the talk window only a quick summary of information about the object including the object number, its aliases, its location, its owner and its size.
@contents me Displays a list of what objects you are carrying in the talk window.
help object Displays the help for that object, if any exists.
@verbs object Displays a list of all the commands you can use on an object.
@recycle object Recycles (i.e., permanently destroys) an object you own.
inventory (may be abbreviated inv) Displays a list of the objects you are carrying in the talk window.
@kids object Displays the object created from the specified object.
@parents Displays the objects that are parents of the specified object (those object the object was created from).

 

Moving objects around

Command What it does
drop object Places the object in the room that you are located in.
take object Picks up an object from the room that you are in. You are now "carrying" the object.
give object to person Gives the object to a person in the room with you.
@move object to place Moves the object to the place you specify. (Note: you may have to use the object number for the place.)

Making rooms

Command/Action What it does

help @dig

Gives you help on commands you can use to refine the names of exits and entrances to your rooms, and to connect your rooms to other people's rooms (which requires their cooperation).

@chparent here to room#

Changes the room's parent to another. The room number must be preceded by #, the pound or number sign (e.g., #98, the number of the generic moderated room).

Command What it does
help Displays the general help index.
help here Displays help for the room.
help object Displays help for the object you specify (you may need to be holding it).
help command Displays help for the command you specify.
